Rainer F. Storb did pioneering experimental groundwork of bone marrow transplantation. His particular contributions in its clinical application were the use of immunosuppressive anti-cancer drugs and studies of treatment and prevention of graft versus host disease.
Rainer F. Storb was awarded as major contributor to laboratory and clinical studies of more than 2500 bone marrow transplantations in man.

C. Dean Buckner has been devoted to the clinical aspects of bone marrow transplantation, platelet and granulocyte transfusion, cryopreservation of bone marrow, design of high dose chemotherapy regimes and for preparation of the patient for engraftment.
C. Dean Buckner was awarded for his dedication and clinical skills which are in a large measure responsible for the success of the Seattle team.
